There are actually replaced lines for Nora being a lawyer instead of a soldier, namely with the USS Constitution robot recognizing that Nora is a civil servant, not a soldier like with Nate. I believe there was an option for you to build your own character but the main intent was for you to use the presets. So the choice of a traditional nuclear family as the focus of the story was the best decision to appeal to the widest audience, it was only the further development of those characters' stories that was flawed.ДЄs for blank slate characters, if I recall correctly FO1 and FO2 both gave you a slate of predefined characters to choose from. Non-traditional families/relationships remain a minority regardless of how they are presented in media.
